Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) is an online application process launched by the FSSAI to assist Indian Food Business Operators (FBO) to apply for their Licenses and Registration Certificate and track the progress of their applications. They can use the same website when dealing with the renewal of their application, and additionally when making changes to the FSSAI licence, which needs to be done, if an establishment was initially working in one field and then switched to another.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, consolidating statutes connected with food safety and regulation for the country. FSSAI is responsible for protecting and promoting public health by regulating and supervising food safety. They also put together a series of standardised regulations, across the country that food establishments have to follow, mainly to prevent their consumers from consuming adulterated and below par food. Every Food Business Operator (FBO) is required to obtain FSSAI registration and operating a Food Business without a license is a punishable offence.
To get an FSSAI registration, FBOs have to apply for Food License or FSSAI (Food Safety Standards Act Of India) created under the FSSA Act 2009, which is an obligatory prerequisite for Food Business Operators.
There are three different types of food licences which differ based on the scale of operation of the food business carried out.
